California Environmental Flows Framework Workshop, October 11, 2022: California Aquatic Bioassessment Workgroup-California Society for Freshwater Sciences Annual Conference
  • This workshop provided a series of presentations related to CEFF, including an overview of the framework, modeling of functional flow metrics statewide, application of CEFF within CDFWs instream flow program, a case study application of CEFF in Southern California, demonstration of associated online tools including the natural flows database and the CEFF R Package, and next steps for continued advancement of CEFF throughout California.
  • A recording of the workshop is available here.  The time in the recording when each presentation starts is as follows:
    • CEFF Overview (Sarah Yarnell, UCD) - 6:12
    • Functional Flow Metric Modeling (Ted Grantham, UCB) - 31:15
    • CDFW Instream Flow Program (Alyssa Obester & Alex Milward, CDFW) - 49:45
    • CEFF Application in South Orange County (Kris Taniguchi-Quan, SCCWRP) - 59:40
    • CEFF Tools (Kirk Klausmeyer & Julie Zimmerman, TNC) - 1:22:30
    • Future Steps (Kris Taniguchi-Quan, SCCWRP) - 1:41:10
Making the Most of Water for the Environment, September 3, 2020: Public Policy Institute of California Event
  • This recorded presentation provides a brief overview on using functional flows to sustain the biological, chemical, and physical processes necessary for ecosystem health. A panel of members from the CEFF technical team discusses how to put this approach into practice.
Functional Flows Calculator "Under the Hood", January 28, 2019: California Water Quality Monitoring Council Environmental Flows Webinar
  • This webinar covers how to operate the functional flows calculator (FFC) through the eflows.ucdavis.edu website or the source python code. **December 15, 2020 Note: Updates are currently in progress for the eflows.ucdavis.edu website, so use the online calculator for uploaded timeseries with caution.  The source python code has been updated and is working as expected.  This note will be removed when updates to the website are complete.
Functional Flows Calculator Technical Overview, September 11, 2018: California Water Quality Monitoring Council Environmental Flows Webinar
  • This webinar explains the functional flows calculator (FFC), an interactive web tool that quantifies key aspects of the annual flow regime based on long-term daily streamflow time series to produce a broad suite of descriptive functional flow metrics. Functional flow metrics can be used to compare flow regimes across regions, natural stream classes, water year types, and various forms and magnitudes of flow alteration. The FFC is housed within the eFlows website, which includes a natural stream classification geodatabase, reference hydrographs, and the instructions to dynamically calculate functional flow metrics for any user-input streamflow time series.
